The fast future of mobile

Don’t you wish you had a crystal ball to see into the future of mobile marketing? I do.

I want to know when doing everything on our mobile phones will seem normal – just like surfing the web seems normal now. I want to know which company will be the Google of mobile – I’ll buy stock now. I want to know when building a site for mobile will be super simple – and really work. I wonder when all my friends will be text messagable – not just a few. I’m just so excited to see it all happen.

It’s like being able to be in 1995 again and watch the Internet go from the days of dial up, “h-t-t-p colon forward slash forward slash…” and wondering IF you got an email to broadband, URLs on everything and more email than I can possibly read in a lifetime. (OK, I’m not so excited for that last part to become reality in mobile.)

I do know it is coming fast. I love this quote that I saw on MobileMarketingInTheNews:

“This is going to ramp up much faster than the Internet did,” said Mr. Sterling, of Sterling Market Intelligence. “It took 10 years and the proliferation of broadband for marketers to do things online that were predicted early on. This will take half the time or less.”

What are you excited to see happen? What fun things have you seen done with mobile that make you say “I wish I had thought of that.”?

  1. I agree with the Sterling comments… here’s why.

Compare today to 1995 and right away we see that the users are already armed with hardware (3g handsets `cept for the iphoners). In 1995 that wasn’t really true; though things were taking off. Today, they’re armed and willing with their handsets.

I don’t know if anyone has thought of it or not but I’d be thrilled if my drycleaners’ software was smart enough to SMS or Mobile email me when my clothes were ready… I need that convenience in my life because I keep forgetting the dry cleaning.

  2. The trend is increasing every day. Our company are seeing outstanding result with SMS more so than Mobile Web, but across the board increase 300% for last year. I watch the trends and if they are rising you won’t need a crystal ball.
